KOTA KINABALU: School bus driver Kinduhoi Sabin, 52, was torn between joy and grief when she saw her youngest son live on television on Tuesday. Aricco, who bagged the 62kg weightlifting event with a total weight of 276kg after clearing 156kg in the clean and jerk and 120kg in the snatch, was the first Sabahan win a Commonwealth games gold.

Aricco's father died just two weeks before Aricco competed and captured gold in the Malaysia Games in 2006.

"I'm so happy for him, but at the same time I can't help feeling sad when I think of his father who would have been proud to see Aricco succeed. He was very supportive of Aricco since young," she said at Kampung Mansiang in Menggatal.

Kinduhoi, a mother of six said she was not keen in Aricco taking up weightlifting at the age of 11 but she eventually accepted it.

"Since then, Aricco's success has brought the family some happiness, especially since his father's death in 2006," she said.

"When Aricco comes back home, we will definitely have a 'kenduri' to celebrate his achievement," she said.
