Table tennis: Women in with chance for first medal

THE national women's table tennis team stand a chance of bagging their first ever Commonwealth Games medal after edging New Zealand 3-2 in the quarter-finals at the Yamuna Sports Complex in New Delhi yesterday. Ng Sock Khim (pic), a silver medallist in the 2007 Korat Sea Games, clinched the winning point against the more fancied Kiwi team.

Beh Lee Wei, Choo Siu Jiin and Fan Xiao Jun also played important roles in this historic victory.

This is certainly a rewarding outcome for the table tennis contingent who were training in Beijing prior to the Games.
For the record, Malaysia have never gone beyond the quarter-final stage in the Commonwealth Games.

In the men's section, Malaysia were playing Scotland in the last-16 stage late yesterday.
