GLASGOW: Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim, the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, was simply inconsolable on Monday.

Ayuni, who won the gold medal with Nur Suryani Taibi in the 10m air rifle doubles event, has been withdrawn from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games – simply because she does not have her shooting jacket with her.

The shooting competition starts on Thursday at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range in Carnoustie.
Her jacket bag did not arrive although Ayuni and the national shooting team landed in Glasgow on July 17.

It seems that the bag is in London.

The shooting officials tried to get her a replacement jacket but she could not fit into it.
Team manager Datuk Musa Omar had no choice but to withdraw Ayuni from the competition on Monday.

She was slated to compete in the 10m air rifle and 50m rifle prone events.

As Monday was the last day to confirm any changes, Musa named Muslifah Zulkifli as the replacement for Ayuni in the 10m air rifle while Suryani will compete in the 50m prone.
Musa said that Ayuni was devastated and “could not stop crying”.

“This is all so unfortunate. She’s taking it badly. She is sad … we are all sad,” said Musa.
“We made a report when her bag did not arrive with the other luggage. We waited for three days … today is the last day for us to confirm the names.

“The rules clearly state that a rifle shooter must wear a jacket.

“We tried to borrow one but it did not fit her. We tried to make a new one but she said that she would need two months to get used to it.”

Musa said that Ayuni was so distraught that she wanted to fly home immediately.

“The licence for all her firearms is under her name … we cannot send her back immediately. “She was a gold medallist last time and now she won’t even get a chance to compete. It is really painful for her …I just feel so sorry for her,” he said.
