Shooter Ayuni gets to compete after jacket arrives

GLASGOW: The smile is back on the face of 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nur Ayuni Farahana Abdul Halim.

Ayuni has been cleared to compete in the Glasgow Games after her lost luggage was found and delivered to Dundee on Wednesday.
She can now wear her tailored-made full-suit shooting jacket to compete in the Games. The rules require that all rifle shooters wear the suit.

Team manager Datuk Musa Omar said that Ayuni’s jacket bag was located in Kuala Lumpur in the lost and found section. It was flown back to Glasgow and arrived in Dundee on Wednesday.
As soon as the bag arrived, Musa informed the Malaysian secretariat to get clearance for Ayuni to compete.

Earlier, when her bag had gone missing, Musa had to withdraw her from the Games because the closing date for entries was on July 21.
He named Muslifah Zulkifli as the replacement in the 10m air rifle event while Nur Suryani Taibi was pencilled in for the 50m prone.

Suryani was Ayuni’s partner when the duo gunned down a gold in the 10m air rifle pairs at the 2010 New Delhi Games.
“As soon as the bag was found, I made an appeal to the organisers at the shooting range … but they refused to budge. They told me that they could not change it because the closing date was July 21,” said Musa.

“I brought up the matter with our secretariat. We found out that there is another rule which states that we can still make changes until the technical meeting for shooting is held. The meeting is tomorrow (today).”

Based on this rule, Malaysia managed to get the clearance to enter Ayuni for both the events.
So, fire away Ayuni!
