Malaysian Archers Move Into Semis After Beating Singapore

From P. Vijian NEW DELHI, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian archers lived up to their top billing by moving into the men's and women's Recurve semi-finals and the women's Compound semi-finals after beating their respective opponents.

The Malaysian women's Recurve team comprising Shahira Abdul Halim, Anbarasi Subramaniam and Ng Sui Kim edged out Singapore's Leng Cheok, Vanessa Loh Tze Rong and Wendy Tan Liu Jie 205-200 in the quarter-final match to advance.

The men's Recurve team led by Abdul Rahim Muhammad Izzudin, Cheng Chu Sian and Arif Farhan Ibrahim Putera ousted Md Emdadul Haque, Shiek Sojeb and Zia Ziaul Hoq from Bangladesh 218-201.

In Compound events, the Malaysian women's team made up of Sarita Cham Nong, Nor Rizah Ishak and Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh were a class above Claudine Gabrielle Jennings, Susan Helen Maitland and Tracey Margaret McGowan from Scotland to emerge winners after a 227-216 score.

However, the men's team comprising Mohd Kharuddin, Hon Keong Lang and Mahazan Muhammad Zaki failed lost to Australia's Patrick James Coghlan, Clint Leslie Freeman and Robert James Timms 220-232.
