Commonwealth Games Athletes To Be Briefed On Healthcare

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysian athletes bound for New Delhi Commonwealth Games from Oct 3-14 will be given a briefing on healthcare tomorrow.

Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM) secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said the briefing by National Sports Institute (ISN) will focus on prevention of dengue fever, cough and diarrhoea.

"ISN's guideline should be followed. The athletes are responsible for their own health," he told reporters at MOM Aidilfitri open house here Saturday.

Malaysia is sending a contingent of 203 athletes and 99 officials to the Indian capital.

The Indian media had reported 140 dengue fever cases including 123 in New Delhi.

Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao yesterday said that reports of dengue cases had been exaggerated and assured that the games would start as scheduled.

Malaysia is competing in 14 events namely aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowling, ping pong, shooting, squash, rugby and three paralympic events.
